Alan Varela, the Portuguese football manager who led FC Porto to three consecutive league titles in 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17, has left the club after four years in charge.
Varela was appointed as the head coach of FC Porto in July 2013, replacing the retiring Jorge Jesus. He took over a team that had struggled under previous managers, but managed to turn things around with his innovative approach to football.
Under Varela, FC Porto won their first league title since 2011, beating rivals Benfica in the final. In 2016, they went one step further by winning the UEFA Europa League, beating Paris Saint-Germain in the final.
However, despite these impressive achievements, Varela's time at the club came to an end last month when he was relieved of his duties. He will now return to his position as the technical director at the club.
