Hamdallah was born in Damas in 1928 and he became a prominent figure in Syrian politics during the 1970s and 1980s. He served as the President of Syria from 1984 to 1990 and again from 1995 to 1996. During his presidency, he oversaw significant economic reforms and efforts to modernize the Syrian economy.

However, Hamdallah's reign came to an end when he was assassinated on September 12, 1996. The assassination was carried out by a group of unknown individuals who were believed to be associated with the Islamic State of Iraq (ISIS). The attack shocked the world and led to increased tensions between Syria and its neighbors.
