Brahim Díaz is currently undergoing treatment after being injured in the second half of their match against Fiorentina on Wednesday night.
The 28-year-old midfielder was playing as a central defender when he collided with Fiorentina's star player, Leonardo Bonucci, and sustained a serious knee injury.
Díaz, who has been a key figure for AC Milan this season, has already missed several matches due to his injuries,Serie A Stadium but it looks like there may be more issues to come.
"I'm not sure how long I'll be out," Díaz said after the game. "I've had a lot of games left and I don't know if I can play all of them."
However, it seems that Díaz will have to wait longer than expected before returning to action. He is expected to miss at least another two months while he recovers from his knee injury.
The club has confirmed that Díaz will undergo surgery to repair the damage to his knee ligaments and tendons. The operation is expected to take place next week.
"It's very disappointing that we lost such a talented player like Brahim," AC Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti said. "He's a great player and he brought so much energy to our team last year. We're hoping that he can return soon and we'll see him back on the pitch."
It remains to be seen whether Díaz will be able to fully recover from his injury and return to full fitness. However, the fact that he has suffered a serious knee injury suggests that the club is working hard to ensure that they do everything possible to prevent similar injuries from happening again in the future.
